Robotic systems have become increasingly a part of our daily lives as they are more and more used in tasks that require higher level of precision. These jobs are usually jobs that require precise operations that will not be possible to be accomplished by a human operator. Haptic technology, a research field in robotics, improves the precision of a teleoperation task by providing force feedback to the operator. This results in the increase of telepresence feeling in the operation. Today, haptic technology is used in telesurgery, and in many types of teleoperation tasks. Also, this technology is used in haptics enabled virtual reality technology such as military and medical educational programs for training purposes. The purpose of this project is to explore the structurally unique haptic robot mechanisms to increase the precision of a system which is considered to be particularly helpful in telesurgeries. A hybrid mechanism design is considered for the novel haptics device. In this context, the previously-designed kinesthetic haptic interfaces will be investigated and conceptual designs will be formulated. A final design will be selected as it is created in the virtual environments and tested in simulations. Then, the prototype will be manufactured. It is later planned to use the developed working prototype to be used in virtual reality supported tasks such as surgical training tasks.
